Explosion Card

This card design uses similar folds to my Double Diamond Card Fold but this one explodes out of a gatefold card base. It is surprisingly easy to achieve and can be done using patterned paper or matts and layers

Card Making Instructions

Begin with a sheet of black card measuring 5 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches and score at 2 7/8 and 8 5/8 on the long side

Take a sheet of pink card measuring 11 x 5 1/2 inch and score on the long side at 2 3/4, 5 1/2, 8 1/4 then score diagonally from the top and the bottom of the 5 1/2 score line to all 4 corners. Watch video for clarity

The diagonal scores are folded as valleys and the 2 3/4 and 8 1/4 scores are mountains. Do not fold the 5 1/2 score line. If you pinch the 2 3/4 and 8 1/4 score lines together from behind the card should fold to resemble the picture below

Flick this over and put glue onto the complete square on the reverse. Before gluing this into the card base

Place glue on the two triangles and glue these onto the opening black flaps. They can be flush to the edge but I prefer mine approximately 1/4 inch in.

If you have used patterned paper you could just add your sentiment into the middle square however I chose to create matts and layers. To do this I cut 

4 squares of silver measuring 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch

4 squares of black measuring 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch 

3 squares of pattern measuring 3 x 3 inch 

1 square of white measuring 3 x 3 inch

I glued together 1 white, black and silver and stamped my sentiment

Cut 1 sliver, black and pattern in half point to point and then glued theses matts and layers together

I cut the remaining silver, black and patterned into quarters, and glued these matts and layers together. 

These were then glued onto my pink card as below

 2 panels of silver were cut measuring 2 1/2 x 5 1/4 and pattern measuring 2 1/4 x 5 and these were adhered onto the front gatefold panels

A piece of silver measuring 5 1/2 x 5 1/4 and a piece of white measuring 5 1/4 x 5 were adhered onto the back for the message

A band measuring 1/2 x 11 1/2 inch was cut to create a belly band. 3 of the cocktail glasses from the stamp set were stamped, coloured and die cut out. There were used to decorate the belly band and finished with the glossy accents
