Shutter Card

I do love a shutter card but I think that is more because I am obsessed with watching the mechanism. While making this one I suddenly thought what if we have an acetate window so we can really see the mechanism in all its glory and so this shutter card was born

For those that prefer to follow a video, there is of course a video up on my YouTube channel

Cardmaking Tutorial

I begun with a sheet of pink card which measured 11 by 5 3/4 inch. This was scored at 2 3/4 and 8 1/4. Folded and burnished.

A second piece of card was cut to measure 6 1/4 inch by 4 inch and this was scored on the long side at 1/4 inch and 6 inch.

Patterned paper measuring 3 1/2 by 5 1/4 was applied to the remaining smaller panels, on the folded card base

Patterned paper was applied to the separate centre panel piece and a circle cut using a circle die

A frame was cut in cream and applied around this circle by using the die used to create the original ole and the next die up

The shutters were created by cutting 2 sheets of pink card to measure 2 by 4 1/4 inch. On the short side it was marked at 2 inch. From this mark I made a mark at 1 1/2 inch into the card. Lines were drawn from each corner to this internal mark to create a triangle which was then cut away. On the opposite end the card was scored at 3/4 inch.

Double sided taped was added onto the tab I had just created on the shutter mechanism and the 2 pieces were shoved together so that the inside of the triangles touch but are overlapped. This was then placed in the centre of the card and the side panels closed to tape it into place

The sentiment was stamped on a separate piece of white card and glued in behind the shutters

The centre panel was then adhered in using foam tape, ensuring the shutter mechanism itself overlaps so that one triangle goes over the top of the other and the under the other one

On the front panels of the card I then marked the outline of the circle and set my circle cutter appropriately. The front circle was then cut. Check out my video for clarity on how I did this.

A frame was put around the inside using the shocking pink

A cream circle frame was adhered in the same way to the front of the card

Using the original circle die, missing one and using the next one a wider frame was created for the acetate. The acetate circle was also cut out of the larger die. The 2 were then glued together

Glue was applied under the frame to half of the circle and this glued onto the card base over the window we created when we out of the circle

The images were stamped from both of the papercraft society boxes. These were coloured using copic markers and either die cut or fussy cut out. These were then arranged on the acetate panel and secured with glue

A number of the images were also glued inside

Images were applied to mirror the back of the acetate as I did not like the look of it in the above picture
